Shih Tzu Behavior
For anyone who is thinking about getting a shih tzu here are some of the experiences that I have had with mine.. I have a one year old shih tzu and she is my first dog. I have found her to be very intelligent and easy to train. She can sit, come, stay, and give high fives. I have not taken her to doggy school and that may be the reason for some of the problems that I have been having with her. She is a very loving and easy-going dog, but gets anxious and worried when I step out, even for a minute. She does not like to be left alone, at all! She will bark nonstop until I come back. We used to put her in a crate, but she is great at escaping and easily figured out how to open the door. She can jump very high and the waist high gate that I bought to keep her in the kitchen area is pretty much useless. I live in an apartment and she is comfortable living here as long as she gets some exercise each day. If she doesn't get walked all day, then she will get antsy and run around in circles and jump over all of the furniture. If you are looking for a small dog with a mellow personality and lots of love to give, then a shih tzu just might be the right dog for you. |
